Appliance for making dough?
I am looking for an appliance that’s best way to make simple dough (non-yeast). I see that some food processors have a dough blade and some stand mixers have a dough hook.
I really need some advice on which is the best appliance for kneading simple dough. Thanks in advance!
Great suggestions. Seems that the food processor and stand mixer are more or less comparable. I would probably get more use out of a food processor, so it seems this may be the way to go. Any suggestions on brands and models would be appreciated as well. Thanks again! Very helpful.

As some of the other answeres on here, I love my kitchenaid stand mixer. I have the 6 qrt. stand, and use it mostly for dough’s off all kinds. Although most stand mixers come with a dough hook, there is another type you can order that is perfect for all dough types. It is a spiral dough hook, and it has many great advatages over the standard type. The standard type dough hook, does require you to stop mixer and scrape down sides, check the consistency and tension of the dough, then adjust and mix some more, the spiral doesn’t require you to do these things, and is much easier and faster, and almost always produces the best dough. The link below will show you some of these examples, and what model stand mixer you can use them on. Hope this helps.
Either one is fine, depending on the volume you need to make.
I’ve had a Kitchenaid mixer for 35 years, and it still runs as well as it did the day I bought it! I do dessert catering, and during the holidays, that mixer is running 8 hours a day! … It has a bread dough hook too…. They’re a little pricey, but you’ll have it for life!
Both a food processor and a stand mixer will work well. if you are going to invest in one for the purpose i would suggest to but the one that you can use in other ways. i personally use my stand mixer a lot more than my food processor.
I like a heavy-duty stand mixer with a sturdy dough hook, myself. The one I have now has a dough hook the thickness of my little finger. It’s excellent. A friend’s mixer has a dough hook the thickness of a pencil lead. I’d be afraid to use it for fear I’d snap the thing off in my dough! Look for a stand mixer with a sturdy dough hook. You can find them used at thrift stores and yard sales. I’d suggest getting a used one until you see if that’s what you really will like using. Then get a new one, if you like, and bless someone with your old one if it still works well.
Kenwood mixers come with a dough hook and their engine is powerful enough to take on any dough .
In any case I recommend them because of their durability, I have a Kenwood A701 that’s over 30 years old and has never ever been repaired and does a great job with all my baking. I also know plenty of people who have Kenwoods as old as mine and say exactly the same. If you can get hold of a second one buy it.
